Few reviewers have mentioned the dust-free feature of this sander. I do a lot of cosmetic repairs of the sloppy drywall finishing in my Pulte home. This sander, hooked up to a shop-vac, is a godsend. I recently filled and repainted a huge joist-twist crack right over my kitchen countertops (black granite). I put on my respirator mask, hooked this baby up to my cheapie B&D ShopVac, and sanded the cracks I had filled last night with joint compound. Not only did I not need the respirator, I could not find a trace of dust on the black granite tops directly below my work area. Ditto for a teak desktop I refinished. Didn't even have to use a drop-cloth. For interior work, this thing is a lifesaver. Cleanup is not an issue anymore and that makes my wife very happy. She has allergies and used to dread my weekend follies (she would just go out shopping; double-whammie!). Now she's pushing me to get the other projects finished.
These sheets work great for wall sanding, but are slightly different than the Porter Cable pads with the centers cut out (shown in the picture). No template or instructions were included. I now realize that the hook-n-loop pads are different because you don't have to have a center hole thru which to tighten the hold-down. You tighten the pad onto the machine and then just exchange the sanding paper over the hole. This up is the best way to go for wall sanding.
I purchased this sander to help out with drywall sanding of joint spackling compound in a townhouse remodel. It worked great for that purpose. You will need to detach the small dust bag that comes with the unit and attach the suction hose of a vacuum cleaner to it. Of all choices of vacuum cleaner I used a Rug Vacuum Cleaner - The Hoover Windtunnel Floor Upright. Albeit that vacuum cleaner didn't lead to the most convenience it was the only vacuum I had and it worked pretty well as long as you were patient to move the vacuum as you sanded. The dust was held down considerably with the vacuum attached. In my opinion, the sander was easy to control and the dust was vacuumed away sufficiently. Be careful to make sure the vacuum hose stays attached because the sander itself will spew the materials out the back all by itself. Since there is a lot of noise with both the sander and vacuum on at the same time you will have trouble hearing the hose come off. I had no problems with the ON/OFF switch or weight of the unit. It was a little heavy but it is also a very rugged model. Sandpaper for it is sold both at Home Depot and Loews. I'd by the economy pack to stock up. The carrying case it comes with can store the sandpaper. I had owned a square vibration sander prior to this one that shook my hands way too uncomfortably. This model is pretty smooth. It probably has a lot of uses other than drywall but if that's your purpose - it works great for that. I'm happy I purchased it. It was worth the cost to me. Good Luck.
